Hamburger SV returns to England in search of European glory

ESEM were again asked by our friends from Liga Travel to look after the team, officials, sponsors, VIPs and journalists of Hamburger SV for their UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg tie at Fulham FC in London at the end of April.

The various delegations stayed in three different 5* hotels in central London, sourced by ESEM and approved by the club on a pre-visit to England. We also designed individual programmes for the officials and sponsors of the club and a separate VIP group, which included a traditional English Afternoon Tea in one of the city's most atmospheric venues, an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Wembley Stadiums and excursion to the Queen's residence in Windsor, plus lunches and dinners at some of London's outstanding restaurants.

The team stayed in one of the city's most established hotels, specialising in catering for top professional football clubs. The ESEM team worked closey with the hotel, Hamburg's team management and staff to ensure, that all aspects of the stay and preparations ran smoothly.

On the day of the match, we organised a light training session for the team at Brentford FC's Griffin Park stadium. Players and staff enjoyed getting the chance to train in a traditional English football stadium and our thanks go to the League One club for their outstanding co-operation.

The match at Craven Cottage ended in disappointment and a 2-1 defeat for Hamburg. It was the first defeat for the club in the UK in the last two years, after winning the Emirates Cup tournament at Arsenal FC in 2008 and eliminating both Manchester City and Celtic Glasgow in the UEFA Cup in 2009 while being looked after by ESEM.
